Clinics and departments related to the Interventional Radiology Service

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Service is located on the first floor (Level 3, Variety Club Building), next to the main theatres. We also perform procedures on the intensive care units and wards if patients are too sick to travel down to our department, and we perform joint procedures in the main operating theatres with other surgical teams where required.

All of our patients are looked after in the general hospital wards before and after their procedures. For more information about what to expect on the day of your procedure, you and your child may enjoy watching our short film.

Many of the studies we perform involve the use of X-rays. For some of these studies, we are legally obliged to ask girls over the age of 12 whether there is any chance they might be pregnant. This is to protect any unborn children from receiving unnecessary radiation.

Every IR consultant has their own monthly clinic. The clinic's location depends on which consultant is running the clinic but will be noted with the appointment booking. New referrals and follow-up patients are seen in our clinics, especially (but not exclusively) those being treated for vascular anomalies.
