The consultants and clinical staff within the Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Department are heavily committed to research and the development of procedures for paediatric patients.

Research

Each speciality has ongoing research studies. Some of the main areas include:

Cleft lip and palate

The effect of jaw surgery on speech, the effects of infant surgery on facial growth and the evaluation of orthodontic clinical outcome.

Craniofacial

3-D facial analysis and multidisciplinary outcome analysis.

Hemifacial microsomia

The effect of early and late surgery on growth.

All research is presented regularly at national and international scientific meetings and published in peer reviewed journals.
