Olympic Games come to Great Ormond Street Hospital

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) patients and their families embraced the Olympic spirit by taking part in their very own 'GOSH Games' on Thursday 2 August.Held in the Lagoon restaurant within Great Ormond Street Hospital’s new Morgan Stanley Clinical Building, the event saw up to 200 of the hospital’s inpatients and outpatients take part. 

They enjoyed fun and interactive activities which included curling, ‘Guess the country flag?’ shot put and ‘Beat the goalie!’

The GOSH Games got off to a flying start when torchbearers, fancy dress mascots and patients who made their own flags and craft torches led a procession from the hospital entrance to the Lagoon.

Dr Jane Collins, Great Ormond Street Hospital Chief Executive also gave a rousing welcome speech before the games got underway.

The GOSH Games were a joint initiative between Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Volunteer Support Team, the hospital’s play team and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

Up to 80 volunteers kindly donated their time to bring the excitement and activities of the Olympics to the hospital’s patients, their families and staff.

Volunteers included those from the charity’s supporters Morgan Stanley, Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, ASK Italian Restaurants and The White Company.

Last week, some patients and hospital staff from Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) were lucky enough to be involved in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
