Jane Collins (About us)

Dr Jane Collins, Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has today announced that she is leaving the role to take up a new position as Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care, in September. This was her message to staff:

I wanted to let you all know that I will be leaving the Trust later this year. I will be taking up an exciting new role as Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care in September.

Obviously I’m sad to be leaving but I feel it’s the right decision. Last year I celebrated my tenth anniversary as Chief Executive of this great hospital and I’m now ready for a new challenge.

I’m pleased to have helped the Trust achieve its new status as an NHS Foundation Trust, which guarantees our independence as a standalone children’s hospital, as important today as it was 160 years ago. In the last few years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of children that we treat and we are redeveloping our site in order to increase our capacity so that we can meet future demand for our services.

It’s great to see the new Morgan Stanley Clinical Building operational with plans progressing for the next stage of the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre and our new Centre for Children’s Rare Disease Research. These are really exciting times for the hospital albeit in a difficult economic environment for everyone. We must continue the important work we’re doing to keep quality and safety at the heart of everything we do.

Tessa Blackstone has asked me to stay in the role until the summer while she and the Trust Board and Members Council get underway with the process of recruiting my successor.

I therefore look forward to catching up with many of you individually over the next few months. In the meantime, I’d like to thank you all for all the support you have given me. It has been a real privilege to be CEO of Great Ormond Street Hospital and to work with so many talented and dedicated people.
The Trust’s Chairman, Baroness Tessa Blackstone said:

“We are very sorry that Dr Collins is leaving the Trust. She has been an excellent Chief Executive and has achieved a great deal in her time at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I wish her every success in her exciting new role.”
