Maltese VIP visit
Patient Jan Farrugia meets Mrs Gonzi

Maltese patients undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital were visited by VIPs from the country this week.

The Maltese president, first lady, minister for health and prime minister’s spouse met the families of patients Lea Xuereb and Jan Farrugia.

Two year old Lea is currently being treated for cancer on Elephant ward. Baby Jan is undergoing treatment for a heart condition on Octopus ward.

The delegation also visited the hospital’s chapel during their visit.

The first lady is personally involved with the Community Chest Fund, which provides additional support around the treatment for Maltese patients, including transport to London.

Fiona Dalton, deputy chief executive at Great Ormond Street Hospital said:

“We were delighted to welcome the Maltese delegation into the Trust, and the families they spent time with enjoyed their visit immensely. They provide support to Maltese families with very sick children who require treatment from the expert clinical teams here.”
