Respiratory services in London

16 September 2011

There have been concerns that if cardiac services were concentrated into two centres in London, some respiratory services might have difficulties.

An independent panel of experts has conducted a review as to whether children’s heart services and respiratory services could continue to be delivered safely at the Royal Brompton Hospital in the absence of an on-site paediatric intensive care unit. The report concludes that children’s respiratory services, including cystic fibrosis services and asthma services, would remain viable at the Royal Brompton Hospital if children’s heart surgery services were moved.
