Trust announces new Co-Medical Director

11 June 2010

Today Professor Martin Elliott was announced as the new Co-Medical Director at the Trust.  Professor Elliott is the Trust's Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Director of Transplantation and the Tracheal Service, and will replace Mr Robert Evans, Consultant Orthodontist.

Mr Evans decided to step down some time ago (announced to staff on 12 May 2010) after almost four years in the role to return to full time clinical practice.

Chief Executive Dr Jane Collins made the announcement saying:

“We are sorry to lose Rob in this role, but delighted he will continue in his clinical work in the hospital as Consultant Orthodontist.  He will continue to lead on information governance and will remain the Caldicott Guardian.  We are grateful for his dedicated work in the area of patient safety, in his leadership as well as behind the scenes work leading to cultural and practice changes in moving us towards achieving Zero Harm. He also played a major role with the Clinical Governance and Safety Team in achieving NHSLA level 2.

"We were very pleased indeed to have three strong internal candidates for the position all of whom were commended by the external assessor.  Those of you who know Martin will be as delighted as I am at his appointment.”

Professor Elliott is in discussion with Mr Evans to agree exactly when he will take over the role.
