Safe and Sustainable Cardiac Review

23 June 2010

A brief note for parents and patients of cardiac services

Safe and Sustainable is a national NHS review of childrens heart surgery services.  The intention is to ensure that every surgical centre sees enough patients and has the facilities to deliver world class care.  An important part of the work is ensuring that the local centres where much care is delivered are correctly connected and supported.

We are very supportive of the review which has the capacity to improve services for children with heart conditions.

The Children's Heart Federation are also involved and supportive.

Notes to editors

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust is the country’s leading centre for treating sick children, with the widest range of specialists under one roof.

With the UCL Institute of Child Health, we are the largest centre for paediatric research outside the US and play a key role in training children’s health specialists for the future.

Our charity needs to raise £50 million every year to help rebuild and refurbish Great Ormond Street Hospital, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. With your help we provide world class care to our very ill children and their families.
