GOSH welcomes the publications of the two serious case reviews. It considers the second serious case review to be an intelligent and dispassionate attempt to explain all the issues across all the agencies in a balanced way. We wholly endorse its finding that much more could have been done to save Peters life, starting with the failure to take him into care in December 2006.
GOSH from the outset sought to work with all other agencies and all investigations to discover what went wrong, and how it could be put right. We have repeatedly apologised for our failings in this tragic case.
Great Ormond Street Hospital in all its services meets all core standards laid down by the CQC for child protection. We welcomed the CQC statement June 2010 that the four NHS Trusts have achieved or are well on track to achieving all the recommendations from the original CQC report of May 2009. The Haringey service has recruited to all health visitor posts, is performing well and continuing to make improvements.
The first SCR correctly identified many areas for improvement and was invaluable in getting the essential work in making Haringey's children safer underway and was particularly helpful to us as we took over management of the full service in April 2008.
