GOSH pioneers functional MRI scans for epilepsy patients

Great Ormond Street Hosptial is the first to offer epilepsy patients functional Magnetic Resonance Imagin (fMRI) scans. This enables clinicians to see which parts of the brain control which vital functions eg memory, speech. language and movement. This is turn gives the surgeon more information about where in the brain to avoid or operate on in those patients for whom brain surgery is suitable.
