Foundation Trust consultation period ends

22 June 2010

The Trust’s consultation period for its Foundation Trust application ended on June 18.

The Trust board will be presented with consultation feedback this month, and will formally consider it in July.

An application will then be made to the Secretary of State for Health (SoSH).  If SoSH and the independent regulator, Monitor, agree, the hospital hopes to become a Foundation Trust by early 2011.

The Trust is making good progress with its membership recruitment, but encourages all those interested in its work to join online.

Stephen Cox, head of communications at Great Ormond Street Hospital said: “We are very grateful for the feedback and comments received from patient support groups, community groups, patients, parents and staff, throughout the consultation period.”

Notes to editors

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust is the country’s leading centre for treating sick children, with the widest range of specialists under one roof.

With the UCL Institute of Child Health, we are the largest centre for paediatric research outside the US and play a key role in training children’s health specialists for the future.

Our charity needs to raise £50 million every year to help rebuild and refurbish Great Ormond Street Hospital, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. With your help we provide world class care to our very ill children and their families.
