Community health services for children, young people and families in Haringey will transfer to the world famous centre of paediatric excellence - Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) - on 1 April 2008.
Following approval, this is the day when all staff from Haringey Teaching PCT’s (TPCT) children's services will transfer to the employment and management of GOSH.
The arrangement will deliver more integrated (joined up) services to children, young people and their families and improve the outcomes for children.
Staff will continue to work with Haringey Council, GOSH at North Middlesex University Hospital and other local partners to improve how services are delivered to children.
Jane Elias, acting director of operations at Haringey Teaching PCT said:
‘’The Teaching Primary Care Trust is now well placed to transfer children's services to Great Ormond Street Hospital whose excellent track record in delivering children’s services suggest the prospects for further improvement are promising. Taking on this responsibility will ensure that the terrific work already undertaken can continue and further develop, helping to change lives and improve outcomes for children and young people in Haringey for the better."
‘’We are very excited about this development as it will allow us to truly deliver a joined up children’s health service’ said Jane Collins, chief executive for GOSH. ‘‘Working with our team at the North Middlesex University Hospital we can really progress the aim of delivering services as close to the child’s home as possible. This development also gives better opportunities to look at putting in place care pathways across community, secondary and tertiary services for children with long-term conditions’.
Councillor Liz Santry, Haringey Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: ‘’This is part of our joint objective to provide better services for children and families in Haringey. Great Ormond Street is known around the world for the quality of its work with children and young people, so it’s an important partnership for us.’’
Under regulations staff currently employed by Haringey TPCT will transfer to GOSH employment but will remain at their current bases.
