As
the first children’s hospital in the English-speaking world, the book
draws on the hospital’s rich history spanning wartimes, coronations and
world cups; from the opening of its doors in 1852 with ten beds to its
present day status as a world-class hospital, treating thousands of
children each year.
Filled with personal stories of patients,
supporters and staff, this book highlights the importance of the
hospital’s pioneering treatments, research and training and the lives it
touches. There are surprising contributions from a host of celebrity
supporters and past patients including Gary Lineker, Linford Christie,
Vernon Kay, Tess Daly, Fiona Phillips and Amanda Redman.
Kevin Telfer is a journalist and author. His previous publications include 'Grand Designs Abroad with Kevin McCloud and Earthships with Mischa Hewitt. He also writes for The Sunday Times and The Guardian plus several national magazines.
