Victor Tsang

Having qualified from Westminster Medical School, London, Professor Victor Tsang began his cardiothoracic surgical training at the Royal Brompton and London Chest Hospitals.

For two years, he was a Lecturer and Research Fellow at the National Heart and Lung Institute under Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub. He continued his paediatric cardiac surgical training with Dr Roger Mee at the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital in Australia. His first consultancy post was at Southampton University Hospital (1994-1997).

Professor Tsang has been working in the Cardiothoracic Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital for 19 years, specialising in neonatal and complex infant cardiac surgery. He is also a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Bart’s Cardiac Unit in London, where he specialises in complex adult congenital heart surgery.

Professor Tsang has undertaken operations in Scandinavia, Germany, and China/Hong Kong, and leads charity missions in the Caribbean.

He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and lectured widely, and is also one of three Editors of a world-renowned paediatric cardiac surgical textbook. His research interests focus on risk adjustment in outcome monitoring in children’s heart surgery and the physiology of complex valve repair. He recently obtained his chair in cardiac surgery at University College London.
