Ruth Barratt

Ruth is a clinical nurse specialist in the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and has worked with children and young people with neuromuscular conditions since 2003.

Ruth leads the clinical nurse specialist and care advisor team, and is also a paediatric advanced nurse specialist and runs nurse-led clinics for boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

In her role, Ruth offers support in the following areas:

  • new diagnoses and their implications for your child following appointments

  • support at outpatient appointments within GOSH

  • talking to children and young people about their condition

  • advice and support on medications

  • information support on all areas of your child’s condition

  • liaising with local professionals about your child’s condition and referring to local services

  • managing and coping with ongoing changes in your child’s neuromuscular condition

  • advising where you can get help

  • co-ordinating your child’s care when multiple teams are involved

  • advising schools where medication and medical equipment is needed
