Dr Farhana Ahmed (MBChB MRCPsych) is a Specialist Registrar (ST5) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on the Great Ormond Street Training Scheme.
She is currently working under the supervision of Dr Dasha Nicholls in the Eating Disorders Service and Dr Margaret DeJong as part of the Child Care Consultation Team.
Farhana graduated from the University of Leicester in 2009 before going on complete her Foundation Programme and Core Psychiatry training within the Leicestershire Northampton and Rutland Deanery. She completed further training and gained Section 12 Approval in 2014 enabling her to complete assessments and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act.
She has thus far had 21 months of training in generic community CAMHS; of which 15 months were completed during specialist training. She has had 3 months’ worth of experience in inpatient CAMHS experience at the Brookside Inpatient Adolescent Unit in North East London. Throughout the course of her training, Farhana has gained first-hand experience in the recognition, assessment and treatment of a variety of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, psychotic illnesses, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, learning disabilities as well as experience in working with ‘Looked after children’ and the under fives age group.
Furthermore, she has had experience in the set up and delivery of a new community eating disorder service for children and has taken part in many teaching opportunities for medical students and junior doctors.
