Dr Emma Hewson

Dr Hewson has extensive experience of undertaking psychological assessments and interventions for children who have experienced complex trauma - maltreatment and neglect - including as an expert witness. 

Specialisms

She has expertise in providing trauma focussed therapies for children with symptoms of PTSD as a result of complex or acute trauma. In addition Dr Hewson has a specialist interest in assessments and interventions for parents and children for whom Fabricated and Induced Illness is an identified concern.

Qualifications and training

BA (Hons), D. Clin Psych

Dr Hewson obtained her doctorate in clinical psychology from Canterbury Christchurch University (Salomons Centre) in 2001. She is registered with the Health Care Professions Council and is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). 

Dr. Hewson is Bond Solon trained and accredited (2017), and is trained in the use and interpretation of the Child Attachment Interview.

Dr. Hewson supervises and manages qualified and trainee clinical psychologists.

Research interests

Dr Hewson has an interest in clinical audit and service evaluation and published a book on Clinical Audit in CAMHS as well as articles on service evaluations. She recently completed an evaluation of a newly developed service initiative – an emotional regulation group for boys with histories of complex trauma. 

Dr Hewson also has a longstanding interest in the interface between child and adult mental health and completed her doctorate dissertation on ‘Children’s experiences of their mother’s depression’.
