Dasha Nicholls

Dr Dasha Nicholls is an expert in feeding and eating disorders. She first started working at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1995. She is Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Joint Head of the Feeding and Eating Disorders Service and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Child Health, University College London. She is currently clinical lead for the Eating Disorders Team.

Specialisms

Dr Nicholls specialises in feeding and eating disorders in children and adolescents, ranging from failure to thrive and medically unexplained weight loss to early onset anorexia nervosa, as well as the treatment of childhood obesity. She has published over 60 research articles and book chapters, is actively engaged in lecturing and teaching.

Qualifications and training

Dr Nicholls trained in medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and in Psychiatry at UCL and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has a research doctorate (MD(Res)) on growth and development in eating disorders from UCL and a Certificate in Family and Couple Therapy.

She is Past President of the Academy of Eating Disorders, of which she is also a Fellow. She also chaired the Junior MARSIPAN group to develop guidelines on management of severe anorexia nervosa in young people and was Founder and Chair of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Surveillance System for the study of rare disorders in mental health. 

Research interests

Current research projects include the delivery of cost effective and early interventions for eating disorders, refeeding and medical complications in anorexia nervosa, sensory aspects of selective eating behaviours and parent interventions for childhood obesity.
