Urinary retention

Urinary retention is when the bladder fills up but a person cannot pass urine or empty the bladder. This causes pain in the lower abdomen.

It is caused when the normal flow of urine from the bladder is disrupted. There may be a physical blockage or nerve damage between the brain and bladder.
