Periventricular leukomalacia

Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) describes a particular pattern of brain injury that can occur in the developing brain.

PVL is most common in babies born prematurely. Some are affected only mildly, with minimal effects on their growth and development. Others might be affected more severely.
