Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) posterior spinal fusion

Scoliosis is a lateral (side to side) curvature of the spine. It can be corrected in an operation under general anaesthetic.

The bones in the affected part of the spine are fused together and held in place with one or two metal rods. This operation usually requires a stay of seven to 10 days in hospital.
