As part of GOSH’s ongoing commitment to delivering world class care for all our patients, we also aim to deliver this care in the best, most appropriate and stimulating hospital environment.
An important part of the planning process for the Phase 2 redevelopment of GOSH is the ongoing involvement of Children and Young People who have experienced or are experiencing Great Ormond Street Hospital as a patient.
We work with patients to ensure that we understand the needs of our patients, families and visitors. For example, which colours appeal to children and young people most and where should these be used and in a ‘dream’ hospital what additional features should be included?
The designs which were exhibited within the hospital last year demonstrated how GOSH is working creatively with children and young people to gather their ideas and aspirations as to how the hospital environment could and indeed should look.
Children and Young people were asked to colour/ collage a line drawing of a bedroom and/ or a play area. This provided the freedom to chose the colours they would like to see in these rooms and add in their own features, for example a ‘beauty area’.
The Redevelopment team would like to thank the Activity Centre and Radio Lollipop for their help with this project.
Jo Trussler leads this important work and is GOSH’s Redevelopment Team Children’s Champion. If you would like more information on this project or the Children and Young people’s involvement please contact Jo
