Puppets in Residence at Rainbow Ward, North Middlesex Hospital - the second in the series of the Friends of GOSH Creative Residencies Programme

Go Create Puppets - Rainbow Ward, GOSH @ North Middlesex Hospital, summer holidays 2007

Girl with Captain Hook puppetFollowing on from the hugely successful Friends of GOSH Poet in Residence Project in 2006, the second in the series of creative residencies saw children from Rainbow Ward create their own version of the world famous story of Peter Pan.

The project began with a visiting storyteller performing the story of Peter Pan and his adventures in Neverland. Puppeteer Andy Jones then led a series of puppet making workshops with patients and visitors to the ward.

BoyDuring the workshops Andy taught the participants how to create their own individual puppets, creating their faces, facial expressions, hairstyles, hats and even outfits. Together the participants created all the main characters from the world famous story of Peter Pan – Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, John, Michael, Nanna the dog, Captain Hook, Smee and of course Croc – ‘tick, tock, tick, tock’

Once all the characters had been recreated, the children performed their own puppet performance of Peter Pan to the rest of the children, visitors and staff of the ward.

The puppet in residence project was the second of three projects taking place each year at GOSH, these projects are very generously funded by the Friends of GOSH.
