Arts and Humanities programme

Boy with red paint on his handGreat Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) treats more than 90,000 patients each year from across the UK and beyond. Some of our patients have the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions. At GOSH our patients receive the best medical care and the hospital has an international reputation as a pioneer of new treatments and drugs through its research body, the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH).

The hospital is now over 150 years old and two-thirds of the hospital needs to be upgraded or rebuilt over the next 10 years. During the redevelopment programme we will be redesigning how we work to give a better, more flexible, convenient and comfortable service for our patients and their families. This will not only transform the physical environment of Great Ormond Street Hospital but will transform the future of paediatric healthcare.

The GO Create! Arts & Humanities programme at GOSH is integral to the redevelopment programme, enhancing the hospital environment in a number of ways. The programme aims to reflect the diversity of patients, visitors and staff at the hospital and includes activities ranging from visual art to music to dance, appealing to a wide range of cultural backgrounds and age groups. The Arts and Humanities programme makes a vital contribution to the healing environment and improving the hospital experience. We aim to create less stressful, child friendly surroundings, which are relaxing and engaging, while actively supporting creativity and learning amongst patients, visitors and staff.
