Hospital transport

Hospital transport (to and from GOSH) is only available for children who have a medical reason for it. This may be assessed before hospital transport is provided. Please ask your GP (for outpatient appointments) or your nurse (for inpatient stays) to call the Transport Office. We cannot accept bookings from anyone other than your GP or nurse.

Car parking

As GOSH is in the centre of London, parking is very limited and generally on a ‘pay and display’ basis, either on a parking meter for a limited amount of time or in a car park (see map for locations of car parks).

You can obtain a parking permit in some circumstances if you show your appointment or admission letter at the main reception desk of the hospital. You will also need to tell the receptionist your car registration number. This parking permit will allow you to park on a single yellow line in Queen Square or Guilford Street only. Parking elsewhere, even with the permit displayed, will usually lead to a parking ticket as traffic wardens patrol the area regularly.

If you would like more information about car parking, parking permits or directions to other car parking facilities, please ask at the main reception desk or ring them on extension 5276 or 5277.

The Congestion Charge

If you come to GOSH by car, you will have to pay a charge to drive within the central London Congestion Charging zone 7am - 6.00pm on weekdays (excluding bank and public holidays). There are number of exemptions and discounts for certain vehicles or vehicle users, for instance disabled badge holders who have registered with Transport for London.

You should pay the Congestion Charge or register for a discount before you travel by visiting the website www.cclondon.com or ringing 0845 900 1234. You can also use the free phone near the main reception desk. You can pay the Congestion Charge in person at selected shops and petrol stations within the zone. Use Shop Locator at www.cclondon.com to find your nearest shop.

TFL guidelines state that we can only reimburse your congestion charge if your child has a weakened immune system, needs regular assessment or treatment or repeated operations and has been clinically assessed as too ill, too weak or too disabled to use public transport to get to hospital.

If your child falls into these categories, please bring your receipt and car registration number, along with details of when you travelled to the Transport Office.

Disabled parking

If you have a disabled parking badge (‘blue badge’), you can park in the immediate area of the hospital in residents’ parking bays, parking meters and pay and display bays. Of course, you can still park in marked disabled parking bays as well. Remember to display your disabled parking badge clearly on the dashboard.

Fare reimbursement

If you receive certain benefits, you can claim admission, discharge and outpatient fares for public transport for the patient and one adult. You will need to show proof of receiving benefits at the Transport Office within three months of your child’s appointment or admission.
