Sky Ward is for children and young people having orthopaedic (bone) and spinal surgery.
Sky Ward has 18 beds.
Staff on the ward
Sky Ward is mainly run by our team of nurses, who work closely with the doctors to help you get better.
Other staff who work on the ward include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthotists, plaster technicians, healthcare assistants, a school teacher and a ward play specialist.
The following members of staff will be available to help you during your stay on Sky Ward:

Conditions we treat
Some of the conditions and treatments on Sky Ward include:
- club foot
- developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) surgery
- osteogenesis imperfecta
- paediatric spinal deformity
- neuromuscular orthopaedics
- limb reconstruction surgery
- scoliosis
- spina bifida
Facilities for children and young people
Sky Ward has a playroom with lots of toys, games and crafts.
There is also a special room for teenagers which has computers, a TV and DVD player. Sky Ward also has a multi-sensory room with special lights, textures and sounds.
There is a play specialist who organises activities and can help you get ready for any procedures you may have in hospital.
You can also use the Centre on the ground floor of the Southwood Building, which has an outdoor area and a dedicated room (the Den) for teenagers.
If you are well enough, you can have lessons at the hospital school, which is on the ground floor of the Southwood Building, next to the Centre.
If you are not well enough to go to school, teachers can also come to Sky Ward and give you lessons at the bedside.
