A Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) helps people who have problems with speech, language and communication.
Communication means talking, writing, reading and understanding. The SLT's job is to help people to communicate as best they can.
SLTs work with people who:
- Have difficulty speaking because their muscles don’t work properly
- Have problems understanding or using language
- Have stammers
- Have voice problems
- Have difficulty swallowing
SLTs work in hospitals, schools, at people's homes and in health centres. They work with lots of different people, from small children to elderly people.
