Directorates and Clinical Units

Directorates

There are five directorates at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), with Executive Directors providing top-level management.

Finance Directorate

This directorate is responsible for financial strategy, management and control, and ensuring that the Trust meets its financial obligations.

It is headed by the Director of Finance (Claire Newton), and is supported by the Deputy Director of Finance (Andy Needham).

Corporate Function under Medical Director

The Medical Director posts are held by Professor Martin Elliott and Dr Barbara Buckley.

Professor Elliott is the lead for performance and standards, including patient safety. He leads on clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and medico-legal work.

Dr Buckley is responsible for workforce, education and training.

The Assistant Director of the Clinical Governance and Safety Team (Salina Parkyn) reports to Professor Elliott.

The Clinical Governance and Safety Team is responsible for ensuring there are systems and processes in place for managing and monitoring all aspects of risk.

Operations Directorate

The Operations Directorate is the strategic and operational management arm of the Trust. It brings together strategic development, planning and performance, facilities management and family policy.
These sections work together to lead on business planning, clinical improvement and parent and patient involvement initiatives. They also ensure that the Trust is meeting its obligations within financial and human resource constraints.

The Operations Directorate is headed by the Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer (Fiona Dalton).

Directorate of Nursing and Workforce Development

Nursing and Workforce Development focuses on attracting, maintaining and continuously developing a contented and effective workforce.

In order to best meet the needs of the children and their families, the Directorate of Nursing and Workforce Development supports frontline teams.

This includes exploring new roles that challenge traditional professional boundaries, and ensuring that individual staff members are encouraged and developed to reach their full potential.

The Directorate of Nursing and Workforce Development is headed by the Chief Nurse and Director of Workforce Development (Liz Morgan).

Redevelopment

This directorate is responsible for managing the long-term redevelopment work and modernisation of the hospital.

The Redevelopment directorate is headed by the Director of Redevelopment (William McGill).

Clinical units

There are six clinical units at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.

Each of these clinical units combines specialties, which function to provide an integrated approach to patient-focused care and service delivery.
