With the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building (MSCB) due to open in summer 2012, we wanted to share with you the latest on the redevelopment.
In order to treat more children and continue to provide the best medical care and the latest treatments, the hospital aims to re-build two-thirds of the hospital site over a 20-year period.
The first phase was completed in 2006 and we are now working on the second.
Phase 2 of the redevelopment will see the construction of the Mittal Children's Medical Centre, comprising two new interlinking buildings; the MSCB and the refurbishment of the existing Cardiac wing.
The MSCB, designed by architects Llewelyn Davies Yeang, has really taken shape over the last year, and the external cladding, roof and windows are complete.
The second building, the redeveloped Cardiac wing, is due to open in
2016. This redevelopment is much needed since our largest building,
Southwood, was opened in 1938. Medicine and treatments have dramatically
changed and our facilities need updating.
The new building was designed with the hospital's motto in mind, the child first and always. By providing up-to-date facilities, we can continue our world-class work, attract the very best people, and plan adequately for the future.
